How We Make Our Food

As pet owners ourselves, we are committed to making the healthiest and most nutritious food possible to ensure a longer and healthier life for our pets. After losing our dog to what we learned was contaminated pet food, we felt the only we could know with absolute 100% confidence what was in the food we were feeding our dogs was to make it ourselves using fresh, real food that was perfectly balanced and easily digestible.

Making the best quality food on the market is not magic! It is all about finding the highest quality ingredients that are the most digestible for dogs and easiest on their overall system. Our formulas are based upon AAFCO’s published nutrient profiles and proven test results, following years of consultation with veterinarians, animal nutrition experts, and numerous published studies.

We use only fresh, real whole foods that the FDA/USDA have certified as nutritious and safe for every member of the family, the same quality foods that you buy yourself in restaurants or grocery stores. All food is prepared in accordance with FDA food safety standards. Every member of our food production team is a certified food handler or food manager with prior restaurant experience.

At My Perfect Pet, we invite you to come to our Poway facility and observe our entire operation as we prepare pet food made from the highest FDA/USDA quality fresh, whole foods, according to standards we expect for our own food. What’s In Our Food:

Our ingredients list is simple. We NEVER use any meals, by products, fillers, artificial flavors or colors, or any processed foods of any kind. EVER. We believe the healthiest and most natural way to supply nourishment to the body is through fresh whole foods that are naturally high in healthy nutrients, the way nature intended. We do not need to add a long list of supplements to our food because we start with whole foods that have been carefully selected to offer the best nutrition for the dog’s system - naturally.

MAIN INGREDIENTS
All ingredients are selected for their contribution to our balanced and complete nutrient profiles.

Primary Sources of Protein:

• Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breast & Thigh
• Boneless, Skinless Turkey
• Fresh, Beef Brisket & Beef Round
• Boneless Lamb Shoulder - the only food ingredient not 100% originating from the USA, some of our lamb is imported from Australia or New Zealand from companies whose quality standards are as rigid as our own.
• Boneless, Skinless Salmon Filet
• Beef or Chicken Liver
• Whole Cooked, Peeled Eggs - While the shell is relatively high in calcium, they can be abrasive to more delicate digestive tracts, so we remove them before grinding.

 
Meats:

We select only the top quality, USDA restaurant grade meats - lightly baked to the minimum temperatures the FDA recommends to be safe for pets and their people. Cooking meat at low temperatures improved the digestibility for dogs and allows the nutrients to be more easily absorbed in the dog's system, and releases more of the natural flavor. Meats are then ground into small pieces for easier digestion, and so your dog can taste freshly baked meat in every bite!

Eggs:

Whole eggs are cooked, and the shells removed and discarded. While the shell is relatively high in calcium, they can be abrasive to the more delicate digestive tracts, and so these are never included in our products. The eggs are ground in order to blend easily with the other ingredients.

 
Primary Sources of Fiber:

All My Perfect Pet blends offer a balance of proteins and fiber, essential to the dog’s diet. We use whole fresh foods rich in natural fiber which helps to regulate the movement of food through the digestive tract, contributing to prevention of both diarrhea and constipation, and inhibit growth of harmful bacteria.

• Fresh vegetables are rinsed, cleaned to remove stems and seeds, and ground. All vegetables (except potatoes and yams) are added raw.
• Fresh Broccoli
• Fresh Carrots
• Fresh Celery
• Fresh Collard Greens
• Fresh Green Beans
• Fresh Kale
• Fresh Red, Yellow, and Green Bell Pepper (core and seeds removed)
• Fresh Spinach
• Fresh Zucchini
• Why Some Blends Contain Whole Potatoes & Yams (with skins on of course!) - Fresh, whole, baked potatoes are a rich source of vitamins, minerals, fiber, and energy for dogs as part of quality, balanced diet.  (Without freshly baked potatoes (with skins) we must add additional supplements.) The National Glycemic Institute endorses fresh, whole potatoes in fresh dog foods that are balanced with other high quality, fresh ingredients. We never use any processed, treated, or processed potato powders or starches.
• Why Some Blends Contain Whole Grain Brown Rice – The only grain we use, Live, Sproutable Whole grain, rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, low NFE carb (13%) and is frequently recommended in diets to address issues with the digestive tract or anal glands.  Whole grain brown rice is steamed until thoroughly cooked and tender prior to being added to the blends.

 
Oils and Supplements:

• Fish Oil and Organic Safflower Oil - Each is selected for their specific contribution to the balance of fatty acids. We purchase all oils from companies certified to be in accordance with the Organic Foods Production Act and the National Organic Program using practices that foster cycling of resources, promote ecological balance, and conserve biodiversity.
• Natural Kelp - Primary source of iodine and antioxidants, naturally harvested and dried.
• Vitamin and Mineral Supplements to make each serving 100% complete and balanced.

 
Vitamins and Minerals:

All vitamin and mineral supplements are sourced in the USA and are certified with FCC and USP grades approved for humans.

 
Packaging:

We are committed to protecting our environment in every aspect of our business.  Our manufacturing equipment and processes are very green and energy efficient.  We use only recyclable materials in all packaging, and require the same from our suppliers.  Even our insulated cooler boxes are made from recycled materials and are 100% recyclable.

Food bars are sealed in individual recyclable bags with easy tear for convenient serving and portion control.  Sealed, frozen bars are placed in retail packages to help seal in freshness and prevent freezer burn.  ULG blend containers are recyclable, and the paper tray may be composted.
